Overview of the role:

The People and Culture Manager will be responsible for the daily functions of Human Resources and Labor Relations including recruitment, hiring, benefits, implementing company policies, ensuring compliance with the union contract, stewarding professional development, bolstering diversity and inclusion (DEI) work internally, handling employee relations issues that arise and overseeing performance management. The People and Culture Manager will impact every stage of Democracy Now!’s team member lifecycle.

This is a NYC-based position that is temporarily remote because of COVID-19.

Who you are:

  • Experienced. You have 3-5 years of experience in human resources. Seasoned in administering human resources functions such as managing the full-cycle recruitment of talent and the day-to-day oversight of benefits administration, hiring, onboarding, leave management, employee relations, and performance management.

What you’ll do:

  • Manage full-cycle recruitment for various roles, including sourcing top talent, coordinating and conducting resume screens, scheduling and conducting phone interviews, organizing interviews, creating offer letters, and managing the onboarding process.
  • Perform routine tasks required to administer and execute the day-to-day human resources operations such as compensation, benefits, leaves/time off, employee relations, professional development, disciplinary matters, disputes, and investigations. 
  • Use a DEI lens when looking at our policies, procedures, hiring practices, and cultural norms as part of administering the functions of human resources 
  • Support continuous performance feedback practices across the organization and manage annual performance evaluations.
  • Act as a cultural steward; work with team members at all levels to further develop a healthy, cohesive, collaborative, and equitable workplace.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Stay informed of regulatory changes, best practices, and new technologies in human resources and benefits.
  • Administer the bargaining union contract, represent management in labor relations matters such as grievances and assist with labor strategy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • The salary range is $80,000 - $90,000.
